MV_Oldtimer
The birthplace of British motorsport The world's first purpose-built racing circuit opened in June 1907 at Brooklands , Surrey, England . The 4,4km km track hosted the world's first 24-hour motoring event within 11 days of opening and was the venue for the first British Grand Prix 1926 . By 1918 Brooklands was Britain's largest aircraft manufacturing centre . At the start of World War II motor racing ceased and the site was turned over to the production of aircraft . Today , Brooklands Museum tells the stories of motor racing and avitation and it ' s still possible to see sections of the steeply banked track .
